Tennis (Match 1) v Antigua Academy

Our tennis squad learnt a valuable lesson today...that looks can be deceiving.

On arrival at our courts we were faced with 4 very young, and very small opponents. However, it soon became apparent that what these 11-year old Antiguans lacked in stature, they more than made up in talent.

Noticing that our older boys were struggling in the heat, the Antiguan boys moved them around the court with deft drop shots and consistently accurate winners down the line.

It wasn't long though until Shiplake started to acclimatise to the searing heat and the red hot forehands, and we started to pick up some games.

Some excellent serving from Sichel; some excellent work at the net from Nicheli; some long rally winners from Balchin; and some excellent baseline work from Horsfall meant that we could be proud of our performance. Unfortunately we did not win any of the matches.

It turned out we were playing Antigua's no.1 player (at U14 level) so perhaps the score line of 6 matches to love, was a fair  result! We have the chance of revenge against some of the same players on Saturday.
